COVID-19: 165 new cases, including two new cases in Medicine Hat, seven new cases in Brooks

EDMONTON, AB – The latest COVID-19 numbers released by the province show 165 new cases of COVID -19 which brings the total number of cases to 2,565.

1,165 of those cases are considered recovered, according to the province.

The City of Medicine Hat reported two new cases over the past 24 hours bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 15 in the province. Six of the 15 are considered active while nine are deemed recovered.

The City of Brooks, has seven new cases bringing their total to 40. All 40 cases are considered active, according to the province.

This morning, Brooks Mayor Barry Morishita, told residents to brace for more cases, following multiple workers testing positive at a JBS Canada meat plant. A case was also detected at a continuing care facility, and a McDonald’s employee tested positive for COVID-19 on April 17.

Cypress County remains at six confirmed cases, the County of Forty Mile remains at two
recovered cases , and the Municipal District of Taber remains at two recovered cases.

There are 77 confirmed cases in the South Zone.

Elsewhere in the province, there are 1,820 cases in the Calgary zone, 433 in the Edmonton Zone, 137 cases in the North Zone , 76 cases in the Central Zone and 19 cases in zones yet to be determined.

Since the last update, the province says one Albertan has died bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 51.

The province says 4092 tests have been completed over the last 24 hours bringing the total number of tests to 92,962.
