Rattler Run goes virtual for 2020

Apr 15, 2020 | 12:10 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The 2020 Rattler Run lives on.

After cancelling the run in mid March as the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic came into full view, organizers went back to the drawing board.

They came up with a virtual Rattler Run.

Instead of everyone running the regular 3K, 5K or 10K route at the same time, participants are encouraged to run one of those distances along whatever route they choose and at any time on that day.

“You can run in your own neighbourhood, you can run your favourite path near your house, you can even run on your treadmill,” says Tara Chisholm from the Rattler Run committee in a video on the run’s Facebook page. “Of course all of our wheelchair users and mobility devices users are welcome to join.”

After you’ve finished, Chisholm wants participants to visit the run’s social media platforms and post why you’ve run, to keep with the run’s tagline “I Run for Me.” Participants are also encouraged to post their time, a picture of the run and tag #rattlerrun2020 if they so choose.

The run this year, the 41st annual, is free and registration is now open at rattlerrun.ca. The first 100 entrants will receive a special edition 2020 Rattler Run lanyard and entrants will be entered in a draw for a prize from TD insurance.

Chisholm ends the video with what is now a familiar message to everyone.

“If you are running outside whether it be on the 25th or when your are practising for your race on the 25th, is just make sure you’re practising good social distancing.”

More information will come out in the coming days, says Chisholm.
