Students and staff connect via parade ahead of Easter break

MEDICINE HAT, AB -Teachers and students in Medicine Hat had the chance to see each other today -from a distance.

A staff parade was held with teachers from Webster Niblock Elementary School.

Students lined the bus route and made signs for their teachers.

Staff decorated their vehicles, had music going, horns honking, and waved to families as they drove by.

Since schools have been closed the last three weeks, acting principal Rachelle Ulmer says their staff was excited to connect with students.

She says right now they might be far apart, but they are closer than ever.

“So we just want to show love, kindness, and compassion to our Webster families. We’re also very proud of our students and their families for being so brave and courageous during this time. It takes lots of courage to try new things such as an online learning environment so we just want to celebrate that and also show appreciation for them for everything that they’re doing to help prevent the spread.”

Vincent Massey School in Medicine Hat also held a staff parade this afternoon.

Students are now on Easter holidays and will take a break from online learning next week.
