LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 27-year-old Lethbridge man who admitted to possible COVID-19 exposure has been charged after assaulting a peace officer.

LPS stated that on April 2, at around 10:30 p.m., police were called to a report of a domestic assault at a northside residence.

When they arrived, they said they found a man who was in breach of the conditions of a release order.

The man was taken into custody and during the course of his arrest, LPS say he coughed directly into an officer’s face and told him he hoped he would become infected.

LPS noted that the man admitted he had been exposed to a person who had been quarantined.

The 27-year-old is charged with assaulting a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
