MEDICINE HAT, AB – A corporate food bank challenge has been launched this week to support Medicine Hat residents who need support during this unprecedented time.

Executive Director of the Medicine Hat Food Bank Celina Symmonds says they are grateful for TD Wealth in Medicine Hat for kicking off the challenge.

“Families who have never thought that they would have to access the food bank are having to access the food bank due to job loss, changes in the economy, all kinds of things. So we at the food bank are really trying to step up and meet that need,” Symmonds said.

Investment Advisor at TD Wealth Neil Mardian says they help people every day when it comes to their retirement and money and wants to help the community in another way.

He says they want to help the food bank stock the shelves.

“We know they are in desperate need and looking for hampers and ways for people to help so we thought let’s start the corporate challenge and let’s get the ball rolling on this,” Mardian said.

TD Wealth donated $15,000 to the local organization this week to help Medicine Hat families in need.

Symmonds says those funds will provide 100 hampers full of staple items for families.

Mardian says they challenge as many corporations as they can to help match the donation or donate whatever they are able.

Personal donations can also be made to the food bank via e-transfer by emailing donate@mhfoodbank.com or by visiting their website.

On Thursday the provincial government announced funding for food banks across the province, including in Medicine Hat.
