Police confirm five Lethbridge College students charged with sexual assault

Nov 23, 2019 | 10:03 AM

Lethbridge, AB – Lethbridge Police Staff Sgt. Robin Klassen has independently confirmed five Lethbridge College students have been charged with sexual assault.

Four of those who have been charged are adults, while one is under the age of 18. Klassen says the names of the adult students charged have not been released publicly because of the possibility of identifying the minor who is facing the charge as well as to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

Police say the investigation began earlier this month, after information about the alleged incident began circulating on social media.

Lethbridge College officials say they know about the charges, and have provided a statement.

“Lethbridge College is aware of an alleged incident involving members of Lethbridge College. An on-going internal investigation is underway.

The safety of our campus is a priority and we are confident that appropriate procedural steps were taken to ensure the safety of our campus community.

To protect the confidentiality of the individuals involved we are unable to comment further. “

Lethbridge Police declined at this time to provide a court date for those who have been charged.
