Kenney urging Liberal cabinet to listen to Alberta

Nov 21, 2019 | 10:51 AM

EDMONTON, AB — Premier Jason Kenney is urging federal cabinet ministers with portfolios of interest to Alberta to listen to the province’s concerns and take them seriously.

The premier released a statement Wednesday, saying the Alberta government is willing to work with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his new cabinet to address the issues the province considers critical.

“Our government will be a strong voice for Alberta in Ottawa and with other provinces and territories, explaining the importance of Alberta’s economy to the national economy and making the case for a Fair Deal for Alberta within Canada,” the statement reads. “That work began the day we took office and it takes on new urgency now. I look forward to meeting with the Prime Minister in person next month in Ottawa to highlight Alberta’s expectations for a Fair Deal.”

Issues Alberta has brought up include the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion, equalization payments and federal laws, specifically Bill C-48 and Bill C-69, which Kenney says has hurt the province’s energy industry.
