Clugston discusses federal election

Clugston says pipelines and being able to get resources to market have been one of the biggest issues for him this election.

“We’re in the oil and gas business, we all know what’s happened here in Medicine Hat,” he said. “Our livelihoods, our people, our sense of well-being is based on being able to get our resources to market. I think the citizens of Medicine Hat, myself included, would hope for a Conservative government.”

Clugston, who has weighed in on federal and provincial politics during his time as mayor, says be believes a Conservative government would also provide certainty for businesses to invest in Alberta and Canada, something he believes was lacking from previous governments.

“Business needs rules, and they need to know what the rules are first, and they need to know they aren’t going to change,” he said.

Clugston added, “A dollar can be invested anywhere in the world, and it goes to where they think it will be in their favour, and of course, where they can make a rate of return. That wasn’t the way it was in Alberta in the last four years, and even with the Trudeau government as well. So, we’re hoping we can get that foreign investment coming back, and even internal investment, so we can get this economy up and moving again.

Clugston says he will continue to advocate for the city with whoever becomes Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner.

Election Day is October 21.
