Lee scores three as Bandits beat Eagles 7-1, go 11-0
BROOKS, AB – The Brooks Bandits (11-0) got three goals from captain Jake Lee (Owen Sound, ON), en route to a dominant 7-1 home win over the Canmore Eagles on Saturday night at the Centennial Regional Arena, continuing their season-opening winning streak.
Brooks allowed the opening goal but scored seven consecutively afterwards, outshooting the Eagles 45-20 in the game.
Canmore’s opening goal came 4:52 into the game when a right circle shot by Max Giangualano was tipped in by captain Tian Rask at the net front. That Eagle lead would last only 44 seconds, however, as Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) scooped up a puck in the slot and fired between a defender’s legs and past goalie Devin Chapman to tie it at 5:37. At the 7:41 mark, Phip Waugh (McLean, VA) sped in down the right wing and fired in a top-right corner shot for his first Junior A goal and a 2-1 Brooks lead.
In the second, Lee scored his first of the game just 2:16 in on a 2-on-1 setup from Hernandez, with the captain backhanding a shot home. Not long after, a pane of glass was broken by an errant stick, delaying the game for repairs.
