Cannabis course coming to MHC

Medicine Hat, AB – Medicine Hat College will be starting courses later this month aimed at students looking for a career in the budding cannabis industry.

But despite the new Aurora Sun facility being scheduled to open next year and which will be growing up to a million plants at a time, there is still a lot of room for the courses.

Shannan Hurlbut, MHC program administrator, said the course was adopted by the college in response to feedback from cannabis companies like Aurora.

And with millions of dollars at stake when it comes to quality control, the continuing education courses the college is offering allow for an introduction to the business which will help those looking for work in the cannabis industry.

“It’s a definite asset to have that knowledge coming into an industry,” said Hurlbut. “And right now, there is not a lot of people who have a background in cannabis. So if you can do something that will add to your knowledge set, this is an opportunity to do that.”

The college will be offering the 12-hour Cannabis Legislation and Quality Assurance as well as the 30-hour Seed to Harvest course starting later this month.

The college will also be hosting a hemp and cannabis opportunities conference on Nov. 22.
