EDMONTON, AB – Nicole Schultz’s first round of the collegiate golf season was good enough to keep her in contention at the ACAC North Regional tournament at RedTail Landing.

Schultz shot an 83 for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Saturday, putting her into a tie for second place at 11-over par with Carey McLean.

She’ll need a big round on Sunday to catch Concordia University’s Kennedy Turcotte, who torched the Edmonton course to put up a two-over, 74 to lead by nine strokes.

Fellow Rattler Sierra Zukowski isn’t too far behind Schultz, as she shot a 19-over, 91 and sits alone in eighth place after the tournament’s first round.

Rounding out the Rattlers women’s team is Ciara Bonogofski, who is in 14th place after firing a 37-over, 109 on Saturday.

The Rattlers are currently sitting on the podium in the women’s team event at 30-over par for third place, trailing the Concordia Thunder for first place by 13 shots.

Former Red Deer College King and newcomer to the Rattlers fabric Chase Broderson is the top local in the men’s tournament after shooting a one-over, 73 in his first round.

Though he sits sixth place overall, Broderson is only four shots behind Augustana Viking Michael Harrison for top spot on a crowded leader board.

Mathieu Chapdelaine also holds a top-10 position for MHC after shooting a three-over, 75 on Saturday and is tied for 10th alongside Nicolas Pittman.

Tied for 12th place is rookie Caleb Kinch at four-over par, while Kent Lesko is tied for 28th place in the men’s standings at 10 shots over par.

Newcomer Logan Crawford rounds out the Rattlers contingent in 34th place, ending his round with a 90 at 18 strokes over par.

It’s a tight race in the men’s team event, with MHC golfers combining to shoot 14-over par and are just off the podium in fourth place just eight shots off the SAIT Trojans for the lead.

The final round of the ACAC North Regional for Rattlers golfers will tee off on Sunday morning from RedTail Landing.
