Man facing charges followed alleged arson near Kingsway Avenue

MEDICINE HAT, AB —Medicine Hat Police have charged a 33-year-old male with arson after a pair of small fires near Kingsway Avenue on Monday.

Police responded to two separate incidents of alleged arson in the 600 block of 10 Street Southeast near Kingsway Avenue Southeast on Monday. On the first occasion, a small fire was observed and quickly extinguished by firefighters.

Police and fire were called to a second arson complaint in the same vicinity of the first fire. Police say they received assistance from the public and were able to identify a 33-year-old man allegedly at the scene of both incidents.

The man, who cannot be named until a bail hearing occurs, is currently in custody, facing charges of arson to property and possession of incendiary device.

There were no injuries reported from either fire, which occurred in a green space area.
