Martin tied for 14th after opening round at Canadian Mid-Amateurs

OSOYOOS, B.C. – It wasn’t her best round of the season, but Becky Martin has put herself in contention after the opening round of the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

Qualifying for the national event with her Alberta title last month, Martin shot a three-over, 76 on Sunday in her first round of play at the Osoyoos Golf Club.

Martin made par on 16 of her 18 holes on Sunday, however a double-bogey on number six and a bogey on her final hole dropped her five shots off the pace.

That’s put the Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club member into a tie for 14th place on the leaderboard, trailing Vancouver’s Nonie Marler for top spot.

Martin will be looking for a stronger result this week in Osoyoos after missing the cut at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship three weeks ago in Red Deer.

She has some added confidence in her swing however, as Martin was crowned ladies champion at last week’s Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club Championship.

Martin will be among one of the first groups teeing off on Monday for second round action, playing alongside British Columbia’s Emery Bardock and Quebec’s Mylene Limoges at 9:03 am.
