Alberta government launches industry panels to cut red tape

chatLETHBRIDGE, AB – The provincial government has reached out to business leaders so they can help decide how their regulations should be changed.

“Cutting red tape is beneficial for every Albertan,” says Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction Grant Hunter. “Reducing regulatory burden and unnecessary processes encourages economic growth and job creation; which is of utmost importance to our government.”

The goal is to reduce the overall levels of red tape by one-third.

Since launching the website CutRedTape.Alberta.ca on June 24th, more than 2,200 submissions have been made by members of the public.

So far, two panels have been established, one representing the tourism and hospitality sectors and one for oil and gas.

Members of the tourism and hospitality panel include:

  • Brett Ireland, Chair, Alberta Small Brewers Association
  • Ed Sims, President and CEO, Westjet
  • Darren Reeder, Executive Director, Banff & Lake Louise Hospitality Association
  • Corey Jarvis, President, Alberta Professional Outfitters Society
  • Matthew Ellis, Vice-President of Government and Stakeholder Relations, Convenience Industry Council of Canada
  • Yannis Karlos, Co-Chair, Association for Mountain Parks Protection and Enjoyment
  • Brenda Holder, Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada
  • George Goldhoff, President and CEO, Pure Canadian Gaming
  • Leslie Echino, Board Member, Restaurants Canada

Members of the oil and gas panel include:
