Bird’s eye view of Hilda fire aftermath

HILDA, AB —  The full extent of the grass fire in the Hilda and Schuler area is visible from the air.

CHAT News Today went up with Super T Aviation Thursday morning, and filmed the following footage, which shows how much land the fire scorched on Tuesday.

The fire began shortly after 12 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

More than 200 residents of Hilda, Schuler and the surrounding area were evacuated. Winds pushed the flames across Alberta and into Saskatchewan, resulting in several towns and villages there being evacuated. 

Cypress County firefighter James Hargrave, 34, died in the line of duty while battling the blaze.

Cypress County firefighters were out assessing the full impact of the damage on Thursday.
