Oct 14, 2026 | 4:10 PM

The race for the 2026 PBR Canada Championship will intensify in Medicine Hat this weekend, as the Professional Bull Riders Canada Cup Series returns to Co-op Place for the sixth time in the event’s history.

The PBR Medicine Hat Classic takes place Saturday, Oct. 17, with just three events remaining before the season-ending National Finals in November.

Riders will look to earn valuable points toward the national title and a $100,000 championship bonus.

Canadian No. 1 Nick Tetz enters the Medicine Hat event with a 356.83-point lead over second-ranked Gilmar Santana as he pursues a third PBR Canada Championship.

Tetz has recorded eight event wins this season, including three Cup Series victories in Red Deer, Lethbridge and Hamilton, Ont.

Two-time Canadian champion Dakota Buttar, of Eatonia, Sask., will also be looking to close the gap.

Ranked third nationally, Buttar trails Tetz by 774.83 points and is chasing a third career title, and has two event wins this season, including at the most recent Cup Series stop in Kelowna, B.C.

Three-time champion Aaron Roy is another contender to watch.

The veteran rider is ranked fourth in Canada and trails Tetz by 875.83 points as he pursues an unprecedented fourth national title.

Roy has recorded nine top-five finishes this season, including a runner-up result at a Touring Pro Division event in Kindersley, Sask.

The event will feature bull riders from around the world taking on their 1,800-pound opponents in an attempt to complete eight-second rides.

The PBR Canada National Finals will determine the 2026 champion in November.
