Cypress County and the Town of Redcliff will welcome athletes from across Southern Alberta next summer after being selected as hosts of the 2027 Southern Alberta Summer Games.

The Southern Alberta Recreation Association (SARA) announced the host communities Thursday following its annual general meeting, where the board approved the bid from Cypress County and Redcliff.

The four-day Games are scheduled for July 14 to 17, 2027.

SARA said the host communities impressed its board with their proposed lineup of sporting events and activities.

The Games will bring athletes, coaches, volunteers and spectators to the region, with competitions and activities planned throughout Cypress County and Redcliff.

The communities are now expected to begin preparations for the event, including finalizing the schedule and other details.

More information on events, registration and the Games program will be released in the coming months.

Cypress County approved funding of up to $10,000 toward hosting the Games earlier this week, while Redcliff has committed funding through its 2027 budget.

The Games are expected to include roughly 20 to 25 sporting events, with organizers previously estimating that about 2,000 athletes and family members could come to the region.

SARA said the 2027 Games will provide an opportunity to showcase sport, recreation and community throughout Southern Alberta.
