Bandits take two home games against Alberta opponents and sit first in the Interior East Division

The Bandits took control in the second, scoring four unanswered goals. Zachary Deleau scored his second of the season, while Tommy Holtby scored twice for his first two goals as a Bandit. Christophe Lussier also scored his first career goal with Brooks.

Sherwood Park rallied in the third, cutting the deficit to one with power-play goals from Dylan Rousselle and Pavlov, his second of the night.

But Lussier sealed the win for the Bandits with a shorthanded empty-net goal with 21 seconds remaining. He finished with four points, two goals and two assists and was named the game’s first star.

Seven Bandits collected points in the contest, with four having multi-point games, including Koby Francis with two assists.

Yundi Cai made 34 saves to earn his first BCHL victory.

On the power play, the Bandits went two-for-four, while the Crusaders were three-for-eight.

The teams square off again on Wednesday, this time in Sherwood Park.

In Friday’s contest, Bandits continued to find their rhythm early in the BCHL season, defeating the Spruce Grove Saints 5-2.

Tomas Racz scored twice, his first two goals as a Bandit, while five other newcomers recorded their first points with the club.

Recently signed Zachary Spurgeon picked up an assist in his BCHL debut, and Francis registered a point in his Bandits debut after returning from a pre-season injury.

The Bandits also got goals from returning players Michael Kucherawy and Alexei Zhukov. Third-year BCHL player Van Tassel also found the back of the net for the Bandits.

Brooks dominated defensively, allowing just 18 shots, including only 11 through the first 40 minutes.

Emile Beaunoyer lost his shutout with three minutes remaining in net for the Bandits.

The Bandits went three-for-eight on the power play and killed off all four of Spruce Grove’s chances.

The Bandits sit first in the Interior East Division standings with a 3-1 record.

The 24-year-old Hughes played three seasons with the Bandits from 2019-22 before he played four NCAA seasons at the University of Michigan.

Makar played with the Bandits over three seasons from 2014 to 2017.
