Tigers end preseason with shootout win over Broncos

The Tigers responded with a pair of goals from Reily Pickford and Luke Ruptash to take a 2-1 lead.

Swift Current knotted the game back up at 2-2 late in the second courtesy of a 5-on-3 powerplay goal from Brednan Rudolph.

Both the third period and overtime proved uneventful, and the teams needed a shootout for the second night in a row.

Like last night, it took until the fifth round for a winner to emerge, but unlike Friday night, the Tigers would come out on top 3-2 via a Jake Burmis shootout winner.

With the conclusion of the preseason, the 23 teams across the Western Hockey League will vote on whether to carry over the league’s ‘No Return overtime’ rule that it tested throughout the preseason.

“I can’t say I’m a big fan, I don’t know if it makes much of a difference,” said Desjardins.

An announcement will come down sometime next week from the WHL Head Office stating whether the piloted rule will be implemented in the regular season.

The Tigers wrap up their preseason with a 3-0-0-1 record and will now prepare for the start of the regular season next Friday, September 18th, against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
