Three Southeast Alberta organizations are receiving a combined $48,043 in federal funding for programs that keep seniors active and connected to their communities.

The organizations are among seven in southern Alberta receiving a total of $147,851 from the Government of Canada.

The funding, provided through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), will support projects that help seniors stay active, informed and connected to their communities.

In Medicine Hat, the Neighbourhood Associations of Medicine Hat is receiving $23,500 for its Oasis Medicine Hat – Meadowlark & Encore project, aiming to support monthly programming focused on nutrition, physical activity, healthy aging, volunteering, outreach and wellness checks.

The Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation is receiving another $5,405 for its In Hospital Senior Therapy – Java Circle Program, which supports weekly gatherings where seniors can take part in artistic activities involving music to support social inclusion.

Together, the two Medicine Hat projects account for $28,905 in funding.

The Brooks and District Museum and Historical Society is also receiving $19,138 for its Cultivating Heritage: Bridging Generations and Communities project, which focuses on memory-stimulating activities, youth mentorship, collaborative crafts and recipe exchanges among women from different cultures.

The goal is to support social participation and inclusion among seniors while creating opportunities for intergenerational mentoring and connections between diverse communities.

Other funding recipients include the Heartbeat Society, Metis Nation of Alberta Association Local Council #8, Goodstoney Nation and Community Futures Treaty Seven.

The funding was awarded through the 2025-26 call for proposals for community-based projects under the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
