National Sepak Takraw championship brings eight teams to Medicine Hat this weekend
Some of Canada’s best Sepak Takraw players will be in Medicine Hat this weekend for a national championship that local competitors hope will put the city’s growing presence in the sport on display.
The 2026 Canadian Open for Sepak Takraw will be held Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Big Marble Go Centre, with eight teams competing in 31 matches on two courts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free admission.
The Medicine Hat tournament will mark the first time the Canadian National Championship has been hosted in the city, with the Canadian Open Sepak Takraw Championships held annually since 1999.
Two Medicine Hat teams will compete alongside two teams from Rosthern, Sask., two from Calgary, one from Edmonton and a combined Saskatchewan-British Columbia team.
