The Mavericks added another run in the fifth and two in the sixth before holding Black Gold scoreless over the final two innings.

Medicine Hat played error-free baseball in the championship game.

Riley Sherstabetoff drove in two runs, while Sherstabetoff, Drew Tame and Diesel Bishop each had two hits.

Bishop was named the 14U tournament MVP.

The Mavericks advanced to the final after beating the host Sherwood Park Athletics 13-2 in Sunday morning’s semifinal.

Drew Tame had three hits in the win, while pitcher JJ Heppner struck out nine over four innings.

Medicine Hat finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, having only lost to Black Gold.

The Mavericks opened the Rawlings Cup with an 8-6 win over the Edmonton Expos on Friday before falling 5-3 to Black Gold later that day.

They bounced back Saturday with a 5-4 win over the Parkland Twins before routing Sherwood Park in the semifinal.

The Rawlings Cup is an annual Baseball Alberta showcase tournament featuring 14U and 16U teams from across the province.

The tournament, which began in 2022, provides an opportunity for Alberta’s top young players to showcase their skills in front of Baseball Alberta scouts and potentially earn opportunities with Western Canada Prospects Series teams.

The 2026 tournament ran Aug. 20-23 in Sherwood Park, with the St. Albert Cardinals winning the 16U championship.
