Groundwork nears completion on Medicine Hat Southwest Substation

Aug 19, 2026 | 12:45 PM

Construction on the Southwest Substation began this June, and groundwork is nearing completion, according to the City of Medicine Hat.

As this phase wraps up, construction of the substation facility is set to begin.

The City said you may notice increased activity at the site, including more workers and vehicles.

Crews may occasionally work on weekends and are expected to comply with all applicable City Noise bylaws.

Delivery of major substation equipment is planned for this fall.

Construction of the transmission line along Township Road 122 and Range Road 63 is expected to begin late this year and into 2027.

The City said residents will continue to be notified of any potentially loud work and any temporary roadway closures that may be required as construction progresses.

The Project website will be updated as new information becomes available.
