FINAL RESULTS: Friday at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games

The 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games have concluded in Medicine Hat on Friday.

Here are some of the highlights and final results from Friday. All sporting events are free for the public to attend.

🏃 Athletics — Medicine Hat Rotary Track

Friday featured a full slate of athletics finals.

In the 5,000-metre finals, Ontario’s Kealyn Cherwaiko posted the fastest women’s time at 23:14.50, while Yukon’s Darby McIntyre led the second final with a time of 17:41.45.

In the 200-metre finals, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Kristen Bennett won Division 2 in 46.01 seconds, while Manitoba’s Alysia Roy won Division 1 in 51.04 seconds.

Other Friday athletics highlights included:

  • 30M wheelchair slalom: British Columbia’s Tyler LeFebvre — 25.28 seconds
  • 800M Division 1: Ontario’s Ashley Fournier — 4:08.99
  • 800M Division 2: Ontario’s Kealyn Cherwaiko — 3:26.98
  • Mini javelin Division 1: Manitoba’s Alysia Roy — 4.00 metres
  • Mini javelin Division 2: Ontario’s Kimberly Gorin — 6.92 metres
  • 100M Division 1: Ontario’s Brooklyn Saint — 29.52 seconds
  • 100M Division 2: Ontario’s Nicole Ferguson — 19.92 seconds
  • Standing long jump Division 1: Manitoba’s Candy Neustaeter — 0.65 metres
  • Standing long jump Division 2: Newfoundland and Labrador’s Kristen Bennett — 1.05 metres
  • 400M Division 1: Ontario’s Mary Haberer — 2:08.43
  • 400M Division 2: Newfoundland and Labrador’s Kendall Lambert — 1:50.51

🏀 Basketball — Medicine Hat High School

Friday brought the playoff and bronze-medal games to a close.

Medalta Division

Manitoba Team Toba defeated Ontario Gryphons 1, 51-35, in the semifinal.

In the bronze-medal game, Ontario Gryphons 2 defeated Ontario Gryphons 1, 41-37.

Final standings:

  • 🥉 Ontario Gryphons 2
  • 4th — Ontario Gryphons 1

Red Rock Division

Team BC Ravens defeated Team PEI 56-29, while Team Nova Scotia edged Team BC Thunder 42-40.

Team BC Thunder later won the bronze medal, defeating Team PEI 44-28.

Final standings:

  • 🥉 Team BC Thunder
  • 4th — Team PEI

Mavericks Division

Gryphons 3 defeated the Alberta Koalas 48-23, while Team BC Wildcats defeated Team Saskatchewan 46-33.

Saskatchewan then claimed bronze with a 56-20 win over the Alberta Koalas.

Final standings:

  • 4th — Alberta Koalas

🟢 Bocce — Big Marble Go Centre

Medicine Hat athletes were part of several singles playoff and medal games Friday.

Ashley Truant

In Division 3, Medicine Hat’s Ashley Truant faced Quebec’s Cloé Jalbert in the 4th-vs.-5th-place playoff. Jalbert won 13-8.

Jalbert later played Ontario’s Patricia Richard for bronze, with Richard winning 12-0.

Jessica McCombe

In Division 8, Medicine Hat’s Jessica McCombe lost 13-10 to New Brunswick’s Victoria Nelson in the 4th-vs.-5th-place playoff.

McCombe then played Saskatchewan’s Chelzee Proctor for bronze, with Proctor winning 13-5.

Nigel Zimmerman

Medicine Hat’s Nigel Zimmerman was also part of the local bocce contingent competing Friday. His event results, along with the rest of the Games’ bocce results, can be found through the Special Olympics Canada results system.

Mike Baumgardt

In Division 16, Medicine Hat’s Mike Baumgardt faced Prince Edward Island’s Ryan MacNeil in the 4th-vs.-5th-place playoff. MacNeil won 7-5.

⛳ Golf — Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club

In Level 4, Division 5, Saskatchewan’s Taylor Carter finished with a three-round score of 162, including a 50 in Friday’s final round.

Carter also provided one of Friday’s memorable moments on the course, hitting a hole-in-one.

The Division 5 results were led by Ontario’s Raymond Bazinet and British Columbia’s Brett Tassell, who both finished at 152.

In Level 5, Division 1, Alberta’s Emma Bittorf finished second with a three-round score of 258. Ontario’s Natasha Stasiuk won the division with 238.

🤸 Rhythmic Gymnastics — Big Marble Go Centre

Results for Friday’s rhythmic gymnastics finals had not yet been submitted at the time of this update.

The schedule included finals in ball, clubs and ribbon, followed by the all-around and mixed-apparatus awards.

Once the results are posted, they will be available through the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games results page.

⚽ Soccer — Big Marble Go Centre Field

Friday’s soccer playoffs produced several close games.

In the Tigers Division, Ontario Panthers defeated Manitoba Team Toba 4-1, while Saskatchewan Team Sask defeated Team BC Lightning 4-1.

In the Red Rock Division bronze-medal game, New Brunswick Team NB defeated Quebec Équipe Québec 6-5.

The Coulee Division saw SOC Pan-Canadian Team defeat Team BC Coastal Crush 1-0 earlier in the day. In the playoffs, Team BC Coastal Crush defeated the Alberta Strikers 4-0, while Ontario Thunderwolves beat Team Nova Scotia 6-1.

🥎 Softball — Big Marble Go Centre Baseball Diamonds

Friday saw all three softball divisions hand out medals.

Medalta Division

  • 🥉 Manitoba Team Toba defeated Ontario Falcons 14-11
  • 🥇 British Columbia Team BC Tigers defeated Ontario Legion 10-7

Red Rock Division

  • 🥉 Quebec Équipe Québec defeated Ontario Jr. Dodgers 18-14
  • 🥇 British Columbia Team BC Blue Jays defeated Alberta Rockets 17-11

Mavericks Division

  • 🥉 Prince Edward Island Team PEI defeated Saskatchewan Team Sask 11-4
  • 🥇 Nova Scotia Team Nova Scotia defeated New Brunswick Team NB 15-14

🏊 Swimming — Big Marble Go Centre

Swimming results from Friday’s events can be viewed through the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games results system.

Events included:

  • 200M individual medley finals
  • 25M freestyle heats
  • 50M butterfly heats
  • 25M breaststroke heats
  • 100M freestyle heats
  • 800M freestyle finals
  • 25M freestyle, 100M freestyle, 25M breaststroke and 50M butterfly finals
  • 4x25M freestyle relay finals

Medicine Hat athlete Mitchell McDonald also competed in Friday’s swimming program. Full results for his events, as well as the other swimmers, are available through the Games results page.

🎳 Tenpin Bowling — Panorama Lanes

Medicine Hat’s Mitchell “Mitch” McDonald finished with the silver medal in Division 5 singles.

McDonald knocked down 450 pins, finishing behind Ontario’s Donald Jonah, who won gold with 473. Quebec’s Emil Hubert took bronze with 449.

Division 5 final standings:
