In the Red Rock Division, Ontario Jr. Dodgers beat Quebec Équipe Québec 14-6, while Alberta Rockets defeated British Columbia Team BC Blue Jays 9-8.

In the Mavericks Division, Nova Scotia Team Nova Scotia beat Saskatchewan Team Sask 15-8, while New Brunswick Team NB defeated Prince Edward Island Team PEI 20-13.

Soccer

Soccer games were played on the outdoor fields east of the Big Marble Go Centre.

Team Nova Scotia defeated Team PEI, while Team Sask beat Quebec Équipe Québec.

Newfoundland and Labrador Timberwolves defeated New Brunswick Team NB, while British Columbia Team BC Lightning beat the Timberwolves in another matchup.

Alberta Tigers picked up wins over Ontario Shadflys, Team PEI and Nova Scotia Team Nova Scotia.

Ontario Panthers tied Saskatchewan Team Sask before beating British Columbia Team BC Lightning and New Brunswick Team NB.

Manitoba Team Toba also recorded wins over Quebec Équipe Québec, Team PEI and Yukon Team Yukon.

Ontario Shadflys defeated Team Yukon and later beat Nova Scotia Team Nova Scotia, while Quebec Équipe Québec defeated Team Yukon in another game.

Tenpin bowling

Tenpin bowling continued at Panorama Lanes, with athletes competing in three divisioning groups.

Ontario’s Ryan Kulikowski posted the top score in Monday’s first group with 624 points.

In Tuesday’s second group, Quebec’s Sébastien Nolet led with 514 points, while Alberta’s Richard Gillis posted the top score in the third group with 536 points.

Bocce

Bocce divisioning continued Tuesday at the Big Marble Go Centre, with competition split across three groups.

Basketball

Basketball divisioning took place Tuesday at Medicine Hat High School, with 18 games played between 8 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.

Teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan took part in the opening day of basketball competition.

The first official competition games begin Wednesday at 8 a.m. at Medicine Hat High School, with competition continuing through Friday.

Medal games are scheduled for Friday afternoon, followed by the gold-medal games Saturday morning.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Co-op Place. Admission is free, with tickets available through tixx.ca.

The ceremony will include the parade of athletes, the lighting of the Special Olympics flame and live performances.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run also travelled through Medicine Hat on Tuesday. The torch made its way downtown before travelling from the Medicine Hat Police Service to the Solar Plunge at Icy Mountain Water Co.

It will then continue to Co-op Place for the Opening Ceremony and the Flame of Hope Grand Entrance at 6 p.m.

Governor General Louis Arbour is attending basketball, soccer and bocce before the Opening Ceremony, where she will deliver remarks.

The Games continue through Saturday.
