Parade and rodeo highlight Thursday at Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede

The CF parade route begins near the Medicine Hat Curling Club, then turns right onto Maple Avenue and then a left onto First Street Southeast before going under the underpass.

Next, it takes a left at Sixth Avenue Southeast, followed by a right on Second Street Southeast.

A right turn onto Fourth Avenue Southeast will lead it onto River Road before it concludes at the YMCA gym parking lot.

Drivers and transit users in Medicine Hat are being reminded of traffic changes for Thursday’s Stampede parade.

The parade route, along with access to Finlay Bridge and Maple Avenue Bridge, will close at 8:30 a.m. Parking restrictions will also be in place along the River Flats staging area starting at 7:30 a.m.

Several transit routes will be affected between 8 and 11 a.m., including detours for Routes 10, 11 and 20. Riders are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.

The gates open for the exhibition at the Stampede Grounds at noon.

Regular gate admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.

The West Coast Amusement midway runs from noon until the clock strikes midnight, as it will each night through Saturday.

Daily ride passes are available for $55.

Thursday is also Military Day.

The first of three days of the Summer Pro Rodeo begins at the grandstand on Thursday at 8 p.m. Events include Saddle Bronc, Bareback, Bull Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, and Breakaway Roping. Performers are coming from as far away as Australia.

Local area performers at the rodeo on Thursday night include Formost’s William Barrows in Bull Riding, Cypress County’s Tyler Popescul and both Braden and Rylan Brost of Consul in Tie-Down Roping; Braden Brost will also compete in Team Roping, as will Devin Wigemyr of Brooks, Kevin Schreiner of Medicine Hat, and Taylor Wudrich of Bow Island. Maple Creek’s Brana Thomson is in Breakaway Roping. Several other locals will also compete earlier in slack performances.
