Medicine Hat city council has a busy agenda on Monday night.

It features discussions on major sporting events, infrastructure and water management.

Council will hear an update from organizers of the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games and consider a budget amendment to support the 2026 Grand Slam of Curling Masters at Co-op Place.

The City had already budgeted $25,000 for the Curling event from Nov. 3 to 8, 2026, with an additional $25,000 being recommended from operating reserves for event sponsorship.

Councillors will also review Phase 1 of the City’s Airport Master Plan, with Medicine Hat Regional Airport Manager Logan Boyd providing a presentation.

It is being recommended that the council approve a $245,000 budget amendment for the Water Management and Adaptation Strategy.

This amount would increase the existing budget of $325,000 to $570,000.

The increase would be fully funded through approved grant funds of $105,000 from the Federal Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund, Climate Ready Plans and Processes funding stream, and $140,000 from the Results Driven Agricultural Research – Irrigation Targeted Call.

The meeting will conclude with a notice of motion from Coun. Bill Cocks regarding the Water Not Coal petition.

The meeting opens to the public at 6:30 p.m.
