Medicine Hat College announces Kowalchuk as member of Board of Governors

The Medicine Hat College Board of Governors announced on Tuesday the appointment of Terence Kowalchuk to its public membership.

The College says that Kowalchuk brings strengths in finance, leadership, and public service.

Qualities they say will support the board in ongoing work on behalf of students, employees, and the community.

Kowalchuk is a Chartered Professional Accountant and the Chief Finance Officer at Dunmore-based Weddingstar, and has held leadership roles with the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada.  

MHC board chair Sarah Mackenzie said they work together to make important decisions to support college activities.

“I believe Terence’s experience will be a complement to our team,” Mackenzie said in a statement.

“Terence’s background demonstrates his commitment to our community, and we look forward to working with him as we support Medicine Hat College.” 

Each member serves a three-year term as a board member in a role which provides strategic direction and support to the institution while representing the interests of the public, students, and employees.

Kowalchuk has been involved in many local organizations, including the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association, the Medicine Hat and District Canada Day and Cultural Festival Association, and the Medicine Hat Soccer Association. 

He has also been directly involved with Medicine Hat College, holding roles on the Business Administration Advisory Committee and as an Assistant Coach with the Rattlers Men’s Soccer team.  

“It is a profound honour to be appointed to the Medicine Hat College Board of Governors,” said Kowalchuk in a statement.

“I believe a thriving college is the heartbeat of our community, and this role is especially meaningful to me as my own children are part of the college community,” he added.

“My goal is to ensure we continue to provide the high-quality education necessary to develop our local talent, while creating an environment that encourages young people to move to, and ultimately build their lives in, Medicine Hat.”

Kowalchuk was also a recipient of a King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2024 for community contributions.
