The recipients were led into Medicine Hat College’s Eresman Theatre by a bagpipe musician where Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz distributed the King Charles III Coronation Medals.
Terence Kowalchuk, president of the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association, said “it’s been a blessing.”
“It’s been 20 years of living life with skateboarders in this community and being part of a team and being part of something bigger than yourself,” Kowalchuk said.
“We’ve been able to do some really interesting, some really cool things. For me, it’s been kind of a life principle of as you give, you’re the one who actually benefits and you’re the one who receives.”
Donna Serr, known in Medicine Hat for her volunteer work with Make-A-Wish Canada, was another recipient.
“As I listened to all the recipients, I thought, wow, I’m a part of this and it’s just wonderful and I’m so grateful, so grateful,” Serr said.
“And that’s what community is about. It’s all-inclusive, it’s everybody. It doesn’t matter where you are on the life scale,” she added.
“Everybody has something to contribute and it’s amazing where the contributions to the community come from.”
