Medicine Hat Public Library to host March Book Sale

Mar 3, 2026 | 12:32 PM

A book sale will take place at the Medicine Hat Public Library (MHPL) later this month as a fundraiser.

The first day of spring will kick off the Friends of the Medicine Hat Public Library Spring Book Sale.

Sue Masterman with the Friends of the MHPL said that the March Book Sale will be bigger and better than ever.

“Be sure to come to the library March 20-21 to pick up some real bargains,” Masterman said.

The two-day sale is March 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to Chris Brown, Head of Marketing & Community Engagement, many people in the community look forward to the sale for months, and people are often lined up before the library doors open on sale days.

“A lot of people are here both days and take this opportunity to fill their book shelves and stock their To Be Read pile for the summer and in some cases all the way into the winter,” Brown said.

“There will be thousands of fiction and non-fiction books of all genres for all ages, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and board games available at the sale,” he added.

“You can find well-known classics, nearly brand-new best-sellers and gems that flew under your radar when they were first published years ago.”

Book sales are the largest fundraising activity the Friends group does for the library, typically raising about $5,000.

Money raised will go towards items like program supplies and furniture at the library.

Donations of gently-used books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and board games are being accepted at the MHPL until March 14 for the sale.

Not accepted as donations are textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, cassettes, vinyl records, or items more than 15 years old.

Donors can take the items to the tables behind the theatre on the lower level of the library.
