Medicine Hat’s Carter Allan will play for Team Canada at the 2026 U18 Men’s Ball Hockey World Championships in Slovakia in July.

Canada Ball Hockey announced its final roster on Monday, and Allan is the only Alberta player on the U18 team.

He said he was pretty pumped when he found out.

“I was just at home one night, and my mom told me the news, and to be honest, I was shocked and not expecting it,” Allan said.

The 17-year-old member of the Gas City Ball Hockey League has represented Alberta at the national level on three occasions, leading the tournament in points in 2024, and was named a tournament all-star.

Allan said he is thankful for his friends and family for helping him be the best player he can be and for being there for him.

“As well as all my teammates and coaches I’ve had over the years, especially my coaches Derek Boschee and Keith Meier,” Allan said.

“I think I earned the roster spot from hard work and taking advantage of the opportunities I’ve had.”

He competes as a forward, but can also shift to defence when needed.

Members of the team will travel to Europe in late June to participate in a three-day training camp before round robin play.

“I can’t wait to go to Europe, it’s something you always see on screens, and I’ve never had the chance to go, so I just can’t wait,” Allan said.

The international tournament is July 1-5 in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, a city similar in size to Medicine Hat.

Allan said the opportunity to represent his country is a surreal feeling.

“It’s something I’ve always thought about and imagined how cool it would be,” Allan said.

“I just can’t wait to get going.”

Allan, also a competitive ice hockey player, is signed to play with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League‘s Melfort Mustangs in the fall.

He is currently rostered as an affiliate player with the HJHL’s Medicine Hat Cubs, competing with them during the playoffs.
