The Mustard Seed’s Coldest Night of the Year walk will take place on Feb. 28 in Medicine Hat.

The event, cancelled in 2025, raised over $10,000 locally in 2024 for The Mustard Seed and nearly $150,000 across Alberta.

The non-profit is seeking team captains and walkers to join the event, and community members are invited to walk together in a show of support for those experiencing homelessness and hardship in this family-friendly winter event.

The non-profit said that participants will walk in solidarity with individuals and families facing winter hardship, while also recognizing the continued support of the Medicine Hat community during a period of transition.

The event is open to individuals, families, teams, and workplaces, with options to walk 2 km or 5 km in person or participate as off-site walkers throughout February.

Funds raised will remain in Medicine Hat to support The Mustard Seed’s local shelter, meal, health, and outreach services, as well as future programming to meet the evolving needs of those vulnerable in the community.

Registration is available through The Mustard Seed’s website.

On the day of the event, registration begins at 4 p.m. with the walk starting at 5 p.m. and a light meal at 6 p.m.

It will take place at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds located at 2055 21 Ave SE.

The Mustard Seed is a Christian non-profit organization that has supported individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1984.

It includes locations across Alberta and BC with varying levels of service.
