Prairie Rose Public Schools board of trustees reviews series of reports

The Prairie Rose Public Schools board of trustees reviewed and discussed several reports during its board meeting on Jan. 13, 2026, including updates on new academic programs and the division’s year-to-date financial report.

Among the reports was approval of an International Baccalaureate Program at Eagle Butte High School.

The program will offer IB English, IB mathematics and a career-focused pathway on leadership, service learning and employability skills.

The trustees also approved reports outlining several locally developed high-school courses, including app design, game development, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, aimed at expanding technology-based learning options.

In another report, administrators presented a year-to-date financial update, showing a projected surplus of just over $115,000.

The surplus was largely attributed to retroactive teacher funding, while increased expenses were linked to contract-related costs and an unplanned capital replacement project.

Trustees were also presented with a report on wellness accountability, which showed referrals to student wellness counsellors have more than doubled over the past decade, with increases reported at several high schools.

The report said social media use is an emerging factor linked to student anxiety.

Many other reports took place during the meeting, including approved student field trips, recognition items and routine governance matters.
