Brooks Bandits second round BCHL series shifts to Sherwood Park

The Brooks Bandits opened their second round BCHL playoff series with the Sherwood Park Crusaders with a pair of home wins over the long weekend.

Game one on Friday was a close 2-1 victory with Bandits defenseman Keith McInnis scoring a pair of powerplay markers, with forwards Nick Peluso and Parker Lalonde assisting on both.

Special teams helped secure the victory for the Bandits as the went two for four on the powerplay, while also going a perfect seven for seven on the penalty kill.

With goaltender Zach Zahara stopping 26 of 27 shots.

During game two on Saturday the Bandits won again, doubling up the Crusaders 6-3.

Bandits goaltender Zach Zahara stopped 22 of 25 shots, while Parker Lalonde scored a pair, with the teams balanced attack continuing with four other Bandits finding the back of the net.

The Bandits opened the scoring just over five minutes in as forward Nick Peluso fired home a one-timer on the powerplay for his fifth of the post-season.

BCHL regular season scoring leader, and Crusaders forward Jeremy Loranger got his first of the series, just passed the midpoint of the first period to tie things up at one.

The Bandits would regain the lead shortly after on loose puck in front of the Crusaders net banged in by forward Michal Liśćinsky.

Before the end of the period forward Parker Lalonde scored his fourth of the playoffs on a breakaway to make it 3-1 for the Bandits.

The Crusaders struck first in the second period, with defenseman Conor Gengle putting one passed Zahara and to get within one of the Bandits.

Later in the period the Bandits expanded their lead, goals by forward Mathis Dufour defenseman Keith McInnis to extend the lead to 5-2.

Striking first in the third period was Crusaders defenceman Jude Bray to bring the game within two.

Bandits forward Parker Lalonde, sealed the victory with an empty netter late in the game to make it a 6-3 Bandits final.

The series continues at the Randy Rosen Rink in Sherwood Park on Tuesday for game three of the series.

During three regular season meetings in Sherwood Park, the Crusaders won two of three.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

If necessary, game five of the series will be back at Centennial Regional Arena on Friday at 7 p.m.
