The Medicine Hat Mavericks are on the road to Weyburn to play the Beavers on Tuesday evening.

The Mavericks are 11-6 on the season and the Beavers sit at 6-10.

The teams split their two games in Medicine Hat earlier this month, each winning a game 5-1.

This will be the mid-point of the Mavericks 11-game, 12-day stretch.

Mavs assistant coach Tory Nelson, said the team is starting to find a rhythm and starting to build really good chemistry.

“I think that last five game stretch we had there we ended off with two really good team wins,” Nelson said.

“I think the guys after the off day are feeling really well going into this now six game stretch.”

Nelson said the team needs to put in a strong effort tonight.

“I think we’re talented enough to beat any team in this league any given night,” Nelson said.

“This league if you don’t show up you’re going to lose. I think we just need to show up ready to play and I think if we show up ready to play every night we’re in good hands to win,” he added.

After the stop in Weyburn, the Mavericks will face a familiar opponent in the Moose Jaw Miller Express for a pair of games.

The Mavericks have beat the Miller Express in three of their four games so far.

Nelson said they have a strong rivalry with the Moose Jaw team.

“The past two seasons it’s been Medicine Hat versus Moose Jaw for the Eastern Conference Final,” Nelson said.

“The guys know when we’re playing them and there’s something more to it. So it’s really exciting when we get to play those games,” he added.

“You know, you can tell there’s a little bit more fire under the guys and, you know, that’s an awesome atmosphere to be a part of.”

The Mavs return home of Friday to host the Swift Current 57’s for a third time on Friday.

They beat the 57’s 4-0 and 10-1 in their previous two games this season.

Nelson acknowledge the teams has done quite well against Swift Current so far this season, but knows they have to keep focused when they return home.

“It’s hard to keep the same grit against the team, it’s easy to just go into a lull,” Nelson said.

The Mavs dropped a spot in the Western Canadian Baseball League power rankings down to fourth this week, dropping a 9-2 decision to the Regina Red Sox who jumped up three spots to second, after winning six straight.

Now trailing the Red Sox by a game and a half in the standings, the Mavericks aren’t watching too much at this point in the season according to Nelson.

“I think Regina’s a good team over there. But, you know, we know we can beat them. We just got to bring our best game that day,” Nelson said.

“I think the game we had against them, it all came down to one inning that didn’t go our way,” he added.

“I think we had a lot of chances to capitalize and I think in the future we’re going to be able to capitalize on those. think we like our chances against Regina.”

The Mavericks don’t face the Red Sox again until July 6 in Regina, but will be working on regaining first place in the East Division over their six game stretch.
