‘A lot of their policies are unacceptable’: AWARE hosts anti-UCP rally in front of Danielle Smith’s MLA office

AWARE, a Medicine Hat advocacy group, held a protest in front of the Crescent Heights-based constituency office of Premier Danielle Smith Saturday afternoon.

Protesting the proposed Alberta Pension Plan and possible provincial withdrawal from the Canadian Pension Plan, activists left sticky notes, chalk drawings and washable marker notes for officials.

Organizer Michelle Sauve said that the protest is meant to educate, make sure voices are heard and she believes that the proposed pension bills could be a hot-button issue for the next provincial election.

“I think what we’re seeing is that people are fed up, and people want to be heard,” Sauve said.

“Although the election is a long way away, we want to get that message out to this current government that a lot of their policies are not acceptable.”

The rally had over 20 participants, with drivers showing their support by honking their horns.

According to Sauve, rallies have been held across the province in the last couple days and are expected to continue Sunday.

Sauve said that AWARE will be visible in the community, including a Pride rally at the end of this month.
