City of Medicine Hat committee to review application to redevelop former Michael’s Motel

There is a plan to redevelop a former hotel in the Riverside neighbourhood of Medicine Hat that was once a hotbed for criminal activity.

A company called DesignTech Engineering Limited has submitted an application to turn the Michael’s Motel site into an apartment building.

The company is proposing a single storey complex with three buildings.

There would be 13 units consisting of studio and one bedroom suites.

Michael’s Motel was closed down in the summer of 2022 after it was identified as a hot spot for criminal activity.

Police along with AHS, the local fire department, and other agencies moved tenants out of the hotel and boarded it up.

Assistance was provided to help legal tenants find a new place to live.

The city’s municipal planning commission will discuss the application at a meeting on Wednesday, Jan 17.
