2023’s winners for Name the Puppy contest

Apr 10, 2023 | 1:33 PM

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have announced the winners of the 2023 Name the Puppy contest open to kids.

Mounties say the winning names will be given to the first 13 puppies born at the Police Dog Services Training Centre in 2023.

RCMP note they received over 7,000 online entries and they appreciate all the kids and parents who took the time to enter the contest and help give the puppies some super names.

All names had to start with the letter “S”. For entries of the same name, a draw determined the winner.

The winning entries are:

  • Sam – Liam Richardson (Whitehorse, Yukon)
  • Sisco – Alise Neville (Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador)
  • Sarge – Maia Mueller (Winsloe South, Prince Edward Island)
  • Steele – William Brobbel (Falcon Lake, Manitoba)
  • Sophie – Lucy Brothers (Fort McMurray, Alberta)
  • Sonic – William Pronovost (Cantley, Québec)
  • Saber – Ellis Muench (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan)
  • Suki – Maxwell Jeppesen (Iqaluit, Nunavut)
  • Scout – Lexia Laviolette (Fort Smith, Northwest Territories)
  • Sully – Eli Denicola (Prince George, British Columbia)
  • Sloane – Max Fletcher (Alma, Nova Scotia)
  • Storm – Paisley Hearn (Oshawa, Ontario)
  • Stella – Flore Moreau (Saint-Léonard, New Brunswick)

Mounties say each of the 13 winners – one from each province and territory – will receive a laminated 8×10-inch photo of the pup they named, a plush dog named Justice and an RCMP water bottle.

While there can only be 13 winners, police say names not selected for the contest will be given consideration for other puppies born during the year.

For those who want a head start thinking of names for next year’s contest, all names in 2024 must start with the letter T.

Thank you to all the young Canadians who took the time to take part in our annual Name the Puppy contest! We truly appreciate your help in naming our canine heroes,” says Inspector Alana McLeod, Officer in Charge of RCMP Police Dog Services.
