MEDICINE HAT, AB – For the first time in 41 years the Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s cross-country won the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference title.

The championship race took place Saturday in Edmonton where the five-woman team added another banner to the Rattlers collection.

Becky Ross at fourth and Madison Scrimger at sixth led their team and were named ACAC All-Conference All-Stars.

Scrimger says running in the final was nerve-racking, but super exciting as well.

“It’s really cool to think as a rookie athlete I was able to bring home the championship title for the first time since 1981, it’s crazy.”

ACAC rookie of the year Ross has never competed in any organized races prior to this year. She says at her age it’s been a cool experience to see how she stacks up against younger people who have been long-time competitors.

“It’s just been a fun kind of journey, because I’m the oldest on the team, I’m 35. So a career change in my life, and I have never run in any organized races until now. So it’s been fun to be a part of that, and see how I stack up against people who are doing this like all the time.”

Patrick Sharp, athletic events supervisor at MHC, says “I know how hard they train, I know how hard they work and to have that type of success. It’s unreal for us as an institution, and for our athletics department. We are so proud of all of them.”

MHC will be hosting the 2022 CCAA Cross Country National Championship, where Ross and her teammates will be competing to further their legacies at the college cross-country level.
