MEDICINE HAT, AB – It was exactly one month ago when a devastating summer storm ripped through parts of Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County.

Some local businesses are making sure those affected haven’t been forgotten and are still receiving support for their community.

During the morning of the Stampede parade, Partek I.T. Solutions turned their parking lot into a space to help fundraise for storm victims. The company partnered with The Copper Leaf Cafe, another local business, to sell snacks, coffee and water to parade watchers with all proceeds going towards helping storm victims in some way. Once the parade ended, Partek was able to raise $168 in funds, which the company promptly matched.

Partek CEO James Parsons says the company decided to partner with Sobey’s in order to purchase $350 worth of grocery gift cards which were to be hand delivered to those still reeling from the aftermath. Parsons says it was important for him and his team to step up and do what they could to help.

“As a business owner, and this community, it’s super important to let people know that we’re here to support the community,” Parsons says. “I think there’s a tremendous opportunity, and a social responsibility when you own a business to be engaged in community, supporting people in any way you can, whether it’s financially or with your time or energy, especially in this day and age.”
