County extends storm response

DUNMORE, AB – Cypress County is extending its response to the storm that destroyed buildings, knocked down trees and power lines and left widespread damage in its wake.

The county says waste bins placed in the hard-hit area along Highway 523 will stay there for another week. As well, the Seven Persons transfer site, usually closed Wednesday through Friday, will remain open all week with extended hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As well the county is covering three counselling sessions until the end of September for those directly impacted, through an agreement with Medicine Hat Family Services.

Over the weekend, officials from Environment and Climate Change Canada confirmed a tornado did touch down near Redcliff on July 18.

On Monday, city crews on responding to an outage that knocked out power to 12 customers on Range Road 61 south of the city. The city says trees that were damaged in the storm have since given way and downed power lines.
