Kinsmen Club sponsors free swimming at Medicine Hat’s outdoor pools

It’s a tradition that’s lasted nearly four decades.

Swimming at Hill and Strathcona outdoor pools will once again be free for the summer thanks to a sponsorship from the Kinsmen Club of Medicine Hat.

The free swim applies to all public swim times during the months of May, June, July, and August. This does not include lane swimming or swimming lessons.

Public swim times are now available online for May and June. Those times were expanded for the season due to the Big Marble Go Centre closure.

Michael Ractliffe, the city’s superintendent of recreation, says he’s happy to see the partnership return for another year.

“Our collaboration with the Kinsmen Club dates back to 1984 who consistently bring a variety of free family-oriented events to our community,” Ractliffe said in a statement.

Steven Pudwell, the president of Kin Canada, says the sponsorship is approaching 40 years.

“The Kinsmen Club of Medicine Hat is proud of our legacy of ‘serving our community’s greatest need” in our community, and we believe that providing free swimming within Medicine Hat throughout the summer does just that,” he said.

All children under eight years of age must be accompanied in the water and within arm’s reach by a person 16 years of age or older.
