Strathcona Island Park access road closing for regular flood training

May 14, 2024 | 9:50 AM

Vehicle access into Strathcona Island Park will be closed during business hours on Wednesday for regular flood protection training, the City of Medicine Hat says.

Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., vehicles will be unable to access the boat launch, Lovell McDonnell Field, Heritage Pavilion, and Strathcona Island Playground.

Training will focus on the installation of a specialized flood protection system in the area known as a “flood wall.”

This is standard annual procedural training and is not related to any perceived or impending threat, according to a statement from the city.

Emergency vehicles will be able to access the park during the closure.

The City of Medicine Hat in a news release on Tuesday thanked the public for their understanding during this annual training.
