MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s full steam ahead at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede in the home stretch toward Canada Day.

“The Canada Day committee is going full bore and we’re just setting up and we’ll be ready for it at noon on Friday,” says general manager Ron Edwards.

It’s the second year Stampede will host the city’s largest Canada Day celebrations, taking charge after the dissolution of the local Canada Day society in 2020.

A full day of activities is planned for Canada’s 155th birthday at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds, says Edwards.

“We’ve got a great agenda starting at noon hour with the opening ceremonies we have free hot dogs for the kids we have cake competition going on,” he says. “Lots of activities on the free stage and then at 2 o’clock the grandstand. We pull in the big stage in front of the grandstand and have entertainment from 2 o’clock to 11 o’clock when we have the fireworks.”

Community booths will be on-site and displays from groups like the Medicine Hat Police Service and the local stock car association.

The Something For Everyone Market will take place at the Stampede auditorium from noon to 6 p.m.

There is no pancake breakfast on the Stampede’s event poster but one is planned in Redcliff.

The Friday forecast shows a sunny sky and a high of 28 C.

The annual Canada Day Beat the Heat skateboard competition will also take place July 1 at the Kinsmen Skate Plaza in Kin Coulee Park. There will be side stage entertainment, jump castles, food trucks and more.

Vehicle access to the park will be closed for the event but the park will be accessible to foot traffic. Regular park hours remain in place.
