First Nation calls for Amber Alert to help find Saskatchewan boy

Apr 29, 2022 | 12:02 PM

RED EARTH CREE NATION – Indigenous leaders are calling on police to issue an Amber Alert for a Saskatchewan boy who has been missing for 11 days.

Chief Fabian Head of Red Earth Cree Nation says the response he and other Indigenous leaders have been getting from officials is that it doesn’t fit the criteria.

RCMP Sgt. Richard Tonge says Amber Alerts are issued only when there’s evidence a child has been abducted and there’s concern for the child’s safety.

Tonge says at this time the criteria have not been met.

Frank Young was last seen by his family on April 19 around noon, with another eyewitness saying they saw him at a playground several hours later.

Tonge says police have no evidence of what happened to Frank, so they cannot rule out abduction or any criminal involvement.
