MEDICINE HAT, AB – The co-winners of the first Be the Change award were announced today.

Sabrina Moore of Kollektiv Cycle and Chelsea Purves of Crew Training Studios were chosen as the recipients of the honour.

The award, which is sponsored by the Medicine Hat Police Service, celebrates those who lead, inspire and motivate others to advance gender equality and break gender bias.

Moore and Purves started their own respective fitness studios, but continue to collaborate as business partners. They created these studios to not only create a positive work/life balance for their families and employees, but to provide a motivating experience for community members.

Moore and Purves were both surprised to win the award. Moore hopes future winners can continue to impact the community in a positive way.

“It came out of nowhere, and it was really unexpected,” Moore says. “We don’t do what we do because we want any sort of acknowledgement or recognition. We just want to create healthier, happier communities.”

Purves echoes her co-winner’s sentiments.

“If I can make a bigger impact, whether that’s within our fitness community, and now hopefully to a wider community farther into Medicine Hat and inspire more women and more individuals to be excellent and to follow their passion, and we can support and not compete, I think that’s amazing,” Purves says.

The Medicine Hat Police Service hopes to award a member of the community with the honour every month for the rest of the year.
