MAPLE CREEK, SK – The Town of Maple Creek and the surrounding area were without power overnight following the wind and snowstorm that knocked down powerlines in southwestern Saskatchewan on Tuesday.

More than 24 hours later, the town says there is still no estimated time for power to be restored and to check the SaskPower website for updates.

The latest from SaskPower shows power is out from just east of Tompkins to the Alberta boundary and from north of Golden Prairie south to Battle Creek.

SaskPower says there are “up to 200-300 damaged power poles, and miles of downed power lines.”

Crews stopped repair work late Tuesday night and were to return to the job this morning.

On Tuesday afternoon the Town of Maple Creek set up a warming station at the Salvation Army Hall for those needing a place to sleep, power for charging devices, and food and water.

Power was also knocked out at the town’s water treatment plant, and a mandatory water restriction is in place. The town says even when power is restored that will not restore the water treatment plant operations and the restriction will be in place until further notice.

Updates for the Town of Maple Creek can be found on the website and Facebook page.

SaskPower also says crews have been dispatched and are determining the cause and repair time for the outage reported in the rural area west of Shaunavon as well as the area north and east of Dollard, and the rural area north of Frontier.
