MEDICINE HAT, AB – History for Nolan Maier came at the expense of the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night, coming out on the wrong end of a 4-0 shutout loss to the Saskatoon Blades.

Maier, sitting one win shy of tying Tyson Sexsmith and Corey Hirsch for the most wins by a WHL goalie in league history, stopped all 20 Tigers shots he saw to record his 120th victory of his career.

Both of Maier’s victories this season against Medicine Hat have now come via shutout, as the Tigers were smothered by the Blades over the back half of Tuesday’s contest.

Medicine Hat’s opening period was one of their best in weeks outshooting Saskatoon by a 10-7 margin, however it was the Blades striking first with Brandon Lisowsky putting a shot past Beckett Langkow blocker side with under two minutes remaining in the frame.

The Tigers were able to kill off a big 5-on-3 power play from Saskatoon early in the second, but the Blades doubled their lead 8:28 into the second with Egor Siderov going top shelf on a rebound sitting in the slot for his 22nd of the year.

Saskatoon made it a 3-0 game less than a minute after Siderov’s marker, as the Tigers were caught puck watching with Noah Boyko going backhand for the turning point of the game.

Kyle Crnkovic added to Saskatoon’s historic night with a fluky breakaway goal in the third period, which was assisted by former Tiger Ryan Nolan for his first career three-point game in the WHL.

The Tigers have now been swept in their season series against the Blades, outscored 21-4 over the course of those four games.

Despite the result, it was a bounce-back performance for Medicine Hat’s penalty kill as it went a perfect 7-for-7 on Tuesday.

With just four games remaining on their season, the Tigers hit the road for Manitoba this week with three games in three nights beginning Friday in Brandon at 6:00 pm.
