MEDICINE HAT, AB – On a night in which Bob Ridley took centre stage, the Medicine Hat Tigers couldn’t get much going in a 6-1 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on home ice.

Justin Hall netted a goal and two assists in the win for the Hurricanes who swept the season series against Medicine Hat eight games to none, while Bryan Thomson made 28 stops in the ‘Canes net.

Prior to puck drop, the Tigers held a rousing ceremony celebrating the longtime voice of the club’s 4,000th game called back in February 2021 without fans and his enduring legacy with the franchise.

Ridley was just the third individual to see a banner raised at Co-Op Place joining early Tigers greats Lanny McDonald and Tom Lysiak, who were two of the first homegrown stars he called in the WHL.

As Ridley’s name hangs in the arena’s rafters, he also announced during his speech that he’d be making his long-awaited return to the Tigers broadcast booth for the club’s season finale on April 15 against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Ridley had missed the 2021-22 WHL season due to undergoing radiation treatment for cancer but has since been given the green light to return to the booth.

In the final meeting between the Tigers and Hurricanes this season, it was Lethbridge getting out to a 1-0 lead off a face-off 6:32 into the game with Tyson Laventure tapping home a Joe Artnsen feed at the side of the net.

Corson Hopwo’s final appearance at Co-Op Place was filled with some fireworks early in the second period, as the former Tiger dropped the mitts with his ex-teammate Noah Danielson at centre ice.

Lethbridge capitalized on the momentum, doubling their lead to 2-0 a few minutes later as Alex Thacker set up Chase Pauls on the power play.

The Hurricanes’ dominance on the man advantage continued just past the midway point of the period, with co-captain Jett Jones cutting to the net off a face-off to jump firmly in the driver’s seat 3-0.

Midway through the third, the ‘Canes added their third power play goal of the night from Yegor Klavdiev on a rebound with both teams collapsing in front of the net for the 4-0 tally.

Goals from Hall and Logan Wormald followed for the visitors, before Ashton Ferster broke up Thomson’s shutout bid with just two seconds remaining off a shot by Logan Barlage to get the Tigers on the board before the end of the night.

Medicine Hat’s penalty kill, which had been extremely consistent over their last handful of games, went 0-for-3 on Saturday night against Lethbridge while the team’s power play failed to register on two chances.

With five games left in their season, the Tigers are back at home on Tuesday night with a 7:00 pm puck drop planned against the Saskatoon Blades.
