Saskatchewan to roll out children’s vaccine clinics in schools

Nov 19, 2021 | 1:24 PM

REGINA – Saskatchewan says it will be ready to start giving Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine to children as soon as doses arrive in the province.

Health Minister Paul Merriman says he’s been told by his federal counterpart that the vaccines will be shipped out relatively soon.

Health Canada today approved the vaccine for children between five and 11 years old.

There are 115,000 children in Saskatchewan in that age group, and the province is expecting to receive 112,000 initial doses.

The ministries of health and education say they are working to set up clinics at schools.

Shots are to be available for students after regular classroom hours so that parents will be able to be there with their children.

Education Minister Dustin Duncan says the government is working on a plan, to be released next week, to ensure anti-vaccination protesters don’t turn up at schools as they have at hospitals.
